How To Draw A Halfpipe
How to Build a Halfpipe
Building a halfpipe requires only a basic knowledge of working tools. Although there are variations in design, you will require only the same basic equipment.
Required Tools and Materials
Pipe or slide rail (optional)
Power saw
Jig saw
Measuring tools
Hammer
Bracing
Nails and screws
Skatelite, Masonite or plywood
Plywood sheets
4 x 4 posts
2 x 4 boards
2 x 6 boards
Step 1
Determine the dimensions of the halfpipe. Decide how high it will be and how steep the transition is. For a small halfpipe, consider a design with smooth transition with or without vertical on the pipe's lip.
Step 2
Use the saw to cut the 2 x 6s to make the ramp flat section. Cut 2 x 6s to the ramp's width. Align these with a couple more 2 x 6s sliced to the flat section's width. Use the nails to join the boards together. This part will go in the curved parts.
Step 3
Use the jigsaw to cut four parts from the plywood. Make sure the same curves are used for all the cuts. There should be space at the curves' top. This is for the skates' platform.
Step 4
To continue building a halfpipe, cut some 2 x 6 boards the size of the ramp's width. Nail or screw them on the curve. They should be spaced six inches apart.
They will make up the ramp skeleton. Note the spot of the 2 x 6s outside the wood. Join the ends and fasten it with bolts. You can also use bracing or nails.
Step 5
Make the platform on the ramp's ends. You should use the 2 x 6s boards and 4 x 4 boards. The width should be three feet minimum.
Step 6
Set the plywood on the ramp surface. Fasten the plywood into place using nails or screws. Secure them to the ramp frame. Make sure you do not snap the plywood when the curve is bent.
Tips and Warnings
Various materials can be used, but Skatelite materials will give you the best results. It will make the halfpipe resistant to weather changes. The surface will also be smoother, making it more comfortable to use. Plywood is not as smooth, but it is cheaper. Masonite is also an alternative.
If you are building a halfpipe, make sure the ramp is set on solid ground. You can set up concrete blocks to support the ramp. Whatever materials you use, do not utilize untreated wood; it will deteriorate very quickly.
